During a five week project on the Grand Banks, Dorbyl marine constructed a new mining plant for the vessel after removing the existing plant. During this time 200 tons of steel was stripped from the vessel in order to accommodate the 100 tons of steel that was fabricated prior to the dry docking. Fabricated steel included an overboard launder, under pans, discharge bins, feed launder and wet bin.

Dorbyl also erected a new support structure for the mining plant as well as equipment such as the primary screens, conveyor belts and two milling machines, etc.

Having established a good relationship with Smit SA, Dorbyl Marine aims to continue to meet their needs in the future. The Wolraad Woltemade was recently dry docked at the Navy base in Simons Town where the main SKF tailshaft coupling, weighing 5.5 tons was renewed. Various other repairs and minor modifications were also carried out.

Dorbyl Marine has won the tender for Pride International's drill tender barge Barracuda which operates off the African West Coast. She will be in drydock for five weeks. Also on the books is the Spirit of Namibia, which will be widened by 9.6 metres.

Dorbyl Marine has successfully completed three large dry docking projects in Walvis Bay over the last few months and is currently negotiating a joint venture in order to make a permanent presence in Walvis Bay.

This will provide an additional Port of call for the oil and offshore diamond-mining sector, while at the same time allowing Walvis Bay to benefit from the skills and experience that Dorbyl has developed over the past 30 years.
