RSD, the "Rolling Stock Division" of DCD-DORBYL, has long been a leader in the development and supply of rolling stock in South Africa and export markets.

Since the early fourties, RSD has produced more than 130 000 freight wagons, 1 000 main line locomotives, and in excess of 3 000 locomotives and special purpose rail vehicles for our mining and industrial users.

RSD is well equipped to service the increasingly stringent technological demands of this industry. Our manpower resources, design expertise, research and development capability and manufacturing facilities are geared to meet the needs of our customers.

RSD (A Division of DCD-DORBYL) is situated in Boksburg East Industrial Sites on the East Rand, Gauteng, South Africa, where main line locomotives, our Funkey range of mining and industrial locomotives and all types of bogie freight wagons, tank wagons, mine hopper wagons as well as landmine detection vehicles are designed and manufactured. The vision of the Company is to recreate and grow RSD to compete with the best. The mission is to satisfy the needs of all customers, employees, shareholders and suppliers and the values constitute mutual trust and respect, integrity, empowerment and customer satisfaction.

The surface area of the offices and workshops measures 42 700 mē in total. RSD boasts one of the most sophisticated CAD facilities and is able to engineer and design virtually anything that runs on road or rail. A fully integrated BAAN system is used in all aspects of the business function.

Licensed products include the GE range of locomotives, bogies for locomotives, coaches and freight wagons, as well as couplers and drawgear. RSD also holds licences for affiliated products from US companies such as General Electric, McConway & Torley, Keystone Industries, and Columbus Steel Castings and is the sole African licensee for the HS self-steering wagon bogie, which can increase wheel life tenfold, improve stability and reduce curving resistance.

The Company manufacturers one of the world's leading mine detection systems, which was tested under NATO standards in France and America. The mine detection system is now a successful export product, coveted by many armies as one of the best examples of true South African innovation where use of lateral thinking has resolved problems believed by others to be insoluble. One of the Company's objectives is to grow the export market for the mine detection system, which has been sold already to the USA, Australia, Africa and Europe.

Product reliability and quality play a vital role in the manufacturing of all products and RSD is listed as an ISO 9001 Company. Health and safety is another factor that the Company considers very important and RSD holds OHSAS 18001 Moodys International Certification.

RSD is a firm advocate/supporter of team work and well established Workplace Forums regularly meet to determine the needs of the workforce. The Company has adopted the Thuto Lesedi School in Gauteng and constantly assists them with their needs.
